Get To Know Joe

Joe “runs” WordPress.com. Well, not the whole thing. But he works for Automattic, the company who does :) When he’s not running super long distances to visit WordCamps, he helps businesses make the most of their WordPress.com sites. He blogs about his running adventures at crazyrunningguy.com.

WordPress Q&A With Joe

Why WordPress? Why do you use it?

Like most of us I started using WordPress because it didn’t cost anything. I continue to use WordPress today because I want to help keep it that way I agree, that Open Source is one of the most powerful ideas of our generation.

What is your favorite thing/feature in WordPress?

I have lots of favorite features, this month I’ve really enjoyed the push notifications from the WordPress app on my Apple Watch.

Share 1-2 plugins you use often and think people need to know about.

Instead of plugins, checkout the WordPress app for iPhone or Android. The two features I enjoy most are Notifications and the reader. Notifications let you know if stats are booming, and push notify you of likes and comments on your blog. And the reader is a super slick way to enjoy reading blogs. I read a lot more now that I have the mobile reader handy.

How has the community made a difference for you or influenced you?

This community is by far the most valuable aspect of WordPress. For every free WordPress plugin there are probably 10 people I know, who freely give their time and knowledge to help others use them.

What makes Sacramento awesome? Why should people be excited to come to Sacramento for WordCamp?

Sacramento is hot! And who doesn’t like hot people? Actually the weather should be quite pleasant in November, so you might have to settle for some mild folks … But I promise you’ll meet some of the nicest people around!
