Geocities and managed her high school’s website. She’s been growing her skills ever since teaching herself WordPress, PHP, LESS, Sass, and design. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Web Design and Interactive Media from The Art Institute of California – Sacramento in 2012 and has worked for two local web agencies as well as freelance.

Cristina is currently the UI/UX Designer at Sacramento digital marketing agency Three29 and can be found blogging at TheLovelyGeek.com.

We’re thrilled Cristina will be speaking at WordCamp Sacramento 2016 on the Best Practices For Creating Content!

Speaker Q&A With Cristina

To help you learn even more about Cristina, we asked her to answer a few questions for us, some WordPress-related, and some others we think you’ll appreciate 🙂 Be sure to give her a shout out on Twitter and don’t forget to use our hashtag #wcsac.

What inspired you to give this talk at WordCamp?

Anyone that populates content knows how much of a struggle it can be, especially when problems arise because of how we’re inputing that content into WordPress.

It’s a very common problem we run into with clients. They’ll write up their content in Microsoft Word or a Google Doc, copy and paste directly to the WordPress editor, and then their page is broken or not showing up the way they anticipated.

I want to help people understand what happens, why it happens, and what the solutions are. Not only will this help someone creating content, but it can help project managers when their clients are running into this issue as well.

How did you discover WordPress?

The year was 2006. I was using a blogging system called Greymatter, which was fairly popular at the time among bloggers who wanted to host their own blog. However, it was terrible when it came to comment spam. It got so bad I knew I needed a better solution. WordPress was gaining popularity in the blogging community as well, but it seemed daunting. My need for a better blogging system outweighed my fear, so I took the plunge, gave it a try, and haven’t looked back since!

How has WordPress Or WordCamp impacted you?

Most of what I do as a designer and developer revolves around WordPress. It’s basically become an industry standard. I started attending WordCamps in 2013, and it’s helped me connect with a great community of people and learn new things. I never expected WordPress to be at the core of what I do when I first started using it 10 years ago.

How do you primarily work with WordPress?

Personally, I use it for blogging, and professionally, I use it as a way for clients to easily maintain their site.

What does the WordCamp theme Discovery mean to you?

The more I work with WordPress, the more I learn and discover new ways to do things. I’m always learning something new, whether it’s WordPress itself or discovering new plugins. As long as I use WordPress, I will never stop learning.

What is the latest book you read?

Outlander! by Diana Gabaldon. I became obsessed with the TV show this year, so now I’m reading the series.

What is your favorite restaurant? Favorite menu item?

The Melting Pot. Can’t go wrong with their Original Chocolate Fondue.

What TV series are you current binging on/into?

It’s a tie between Outlander and Silicon Valley.

What do you do for fun?

I love blogging about all kinds of things, especially decorating my house, on my lifestyle blog, The Lovely Geek. I also enjoy spending time with friends and family as well as watching movies/tv, doing yoga, and serving at church with my husband.

Get To Know Cristina Robinson Cristina Robinson is a Sacramento-based designer and blogger with over 10 years of experience.
