What Our Speakers Are Watching

TV Shows Speakers Are Watching

You know that feeling when you wrap up a show you’ve been watching and you’re not sure what to watch next? I hate that feeling!

With my kids, I watch The Flash, Green Arrow, Super Girl, and Legends of Tomorrow — and all have new seasons out on Netflix, so we’re slowly working our way through the new episodes. Right now Brian, my husband and business partner, and head organizer of the Sacramento WordPress Meetup, and I just finished Halt And Catch Fire, Sense8, Bloodline, and Iron Fist — all were good but slow and now we’re on the hunt to see what we should watch next.

I want the next show I start to be awesome and I don’t want to waste time on a dud, so let’s see what our WordCamp 2017 speakers are watching… maybe we’ll all get some ideas for the future!

WordCamp Sacramento Speaker Interview With Amanda McCoy

Amanda McCoy

Amanda McCoy

amanda-mccoy-design.com | @AmandaRaoul

After studying art and printmaking in college, Amanda eventually found work doing freelance print production at several San Francisco advertising agencies. She got a staff position at Young and Rubicam and worked there for many years. Seeking more meaningful work she attempted a career change to animation, but was discouraged by an uncertain job market. So she started her own graphic design studio in 2012. In 2014 she expanded her offering to WordPress websites. She is very excited to be back in graphic design and running her own business. She loves the work, with it’s combination of the aesthetic and the functional.

WordCamp Sacramento Speaker Interview With Sarah Wefald

Sarah Wefald

Sarah Wefald

zeek.com | @sarahwefald

Sarah Wefald came to WordPress and Zeek Interactive the long way. She started out as a project manager at a major record label &#8212l the sort of job she had wanted since she had first thought it would be cool to work with musicians. However, that dream was soon met with reality in the music industry: half the company worldwide was laid off after the label was purchased and privatized. Determined that her career would not be over at 23, she went back to school while working temp jobs to learn web development and design.

After finishing the program, Sarah started transitioning from her marketing career to more technical work within the music industry, handling social media and webmaster duties for bands. Finding Steve Zehngut’s WordPress meetup group in Orange County allowed her to take her knowledge of PHP and apply it to WordPress web development. As a result, she has created and launched dozens of websites for brands and small businesses on her own, and runs the OC WordPress Web Designer’s meetup at Zeek’s offices on the first Monday of each month. She has presented at WordCamp Los Angeles (2013, 2014, and 2016) and WordCamp Orange County (2014), and served on the organizing committee for WordCamp Orange County in 2015, 2016, and 2017. She’s very happy that Zeek has allowed her to unite her original love of project management with her enthusiasm for WordPress.

Sarah holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Mount Holyoke College and a Diploma in Web Design from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online.

It’s that time again!

In a way it’s hard to believe that WordCamp Sacramento is just a couple months away, and in others, it can’t get here soon enough! It seems like we were just at WordCamp 2016… But now that summer and concert and festival season is here, it’s also time to ramp up the WordCamp Sacramento promotion.

This summer marks the 50th anniversary of the Summer Of Love. During this time, creativity flourished, there was an emphasis on sharing and community, and there was a feeling that anything was possible. The message sent to the world was one of love, peace, understanding, freedom, compassion, and respect.

Just as the Summer of Love was a gathering of people from all walks of life working together and sharing with a sense of community to create something wonderful for the world, WordCamps are gatherings of people of all skill levels and walks of life working together and sharing to create something wonderful for the WordPress community… and WordCamp Sacramento is no different.

This year we’re flying our hippie flag and embracing peace, love, and WordPress — and you might even see some tie dye.

WordCamp Sacramento, the only WordCamp in Northern California, is a truly inclusive community event that invites and welcomes anyone and everyone who is interested in or who uses WordPress in any way to come together for a weekend to collaborate, share, converse, learn, and grow.

And we want YOU to join us.
