The Future: Why Open Matters
Why Is This Important?
WordPress is open-source and we keep hearing about the open web, but what does it mean? Why does it matter? If it’s so important, how can we help? Come find out why a concept that’s been written about for nearly a thousand years is so important to the modern web!
How Did You Discover WordPress?
I’ve been using WordPress since not long after it’s inception and contributing to it for over a decade. I actually discovered it in a relatively thorough search through various content management systems in late 2004/early 2005.
How Do You Use WordPress?
I’m funded by GoDaddy to work full-time on WordPress core. I’m the WordPress Security Team Lead.
How Has WordPress Impacted You?
Open source in general, but WordPress in particular, has had a huge impact on my career. It gave me opportunities that I would not have gotten otherwise, allowed me to build on the work of others to achieve things that I wouldn’t have been capable of alone, and ultimately has become the thing that I do to support myself and my family.
What Do You Do When Not Working?
I ride motorcycles with my son. We have a big chunk of property with riding trails and a motocross track. I also love reading, especially sci-fy/fantasy. Escaping into another world is a fantastic way for me to relax and disconnect.
