Cameron is a Sacramento-based attorney providing legal services to creative entrepreneurs, cooperatives, and nonprofits. Always liking a good challenge, Cameron caught the website design and coding bug after a frustrating experience as a newbie WordPress user while building the website for her private law practice. Legal Considerations for WordPress Designers, Developers, and Users
Why Is This Important?
I was inspired to submit this talk based on my experiences crafting terms and conditions and privacy policies for my clients’ websites. For one client I ended up having to confer with the web developer regarding various questions that arose, and it occurred to me that the law intersects with various aspects of building a website that I had never really thought about before. And now that I dabble in website design and development myself, I believe that knowing those points of intersection can be helpful during the design and development process, and can also help users ensure they are complying with various laws.
How Did You Discover WordPress?
I had known about WordPress for a while, but I didn’t start using it until about 2014, when created my law practice website.
How Do You Use WordPress?
I currently use WordPress for my business website, which has multiple pages, including a blog page. But now that I am learning to code, I will also be using it design and development new sites for myself and others.
How Has WordPress Impacted You?
If I hadn’t gotten so frustrated using it back in 2014 using WordPress as a newbie, I probably never would have started to learn to code. So in that way it had a big impact because it is what sparked my interest in tech generally. I just kept being pulled to learn more.
What Do You Do When Not Working?
When I am not working, I am a mom to two young children and two fur babies (a chiweenie and a border collie mix). I also dabble in letterpress printing. I love crime-solving tv shows, and secretly wish I could be Patterson from Blindspot.
What Is Your Favorite Candy?
Chocolate.
