Bodie Quirk is a geeky Christian Pastor from Southern California who loves how WordPress makes it easy for anyone to share what they know and serve others with their knowledge. Despite knowing nothing about web design, he took on the project of updating his church website and although he did pretty much everything wrong, he continued to learn and improve with WordPress (mostly from the help of others). In 2016, he launched YouCanLearntheBible.com, the online home for all of his Bible teachings, organized as free online courses. He has published 6 courses with over 200 video-based lessons. He is passionate about online learning and believes that everyone knows something that someone else wish they knew.
We’re thrilled to have Bodie onboard as a speaker at WordCamp Sacramento 2018 asked a few questions to help you get to know more about him. Check out our mini interview with Bodie below:
What is the topic of your WordCamp talk?
Getting Your First Online Course Published
Why do you think this is important?
Everyone knows something that others wish they knew, whether they are aware of it or not! Online courses provide the perfect tool to share your knowledge in a way that others are looking for. For people who have knowledge and experience in a particular area, and love to help others, building an online course is a way to make your knowledge available to people all around the world who are looking for what you know.
The problem is that we don’t always know the tools and steps to getting that knowledge out of our heads and available in a way that others can access. That is why online courses are such a powerful way to help others and make money doing it.
People should attend this session if they are passionate about something and want to share their love and passion with others, but may not know the process or tools needed to share their knowledge.
What’s your WordPress origin story?
I discovered WordPress when I declared that something simply HAD to be done about our awful church website even if I had to do it myself (though I knew nothing about building websites)! Though I am a full-time Pastor, I have always had a passionate interest in technology and was excited for the opportunity learn how websites work. Fast forward 10 years, I have rebuilt our church website 3 times, built a bunch for others along the way, and am currently working on my own Bible training website.
My love for WordPress has only grown with my knowledge and experience using it. It makes it possible for anyone to serve others through sharing their knowledge, and it is easier than ever before to create an awesome website without having to learn code languages first. It’s never been better a better time to learn WordPress!
How has WordPress impacted your world?
To try and capture the joy and gratitude for the impact WordPress has had on my life would be impossible! What started as simply a website building platform has grown to become one of the most joyful and exciting parts of my life. WordPress has truly given me the power to impact the lives of others in a way that would simply not be possible otherwise. It has also unlocked my creative potential in a way that I never expected, continuing to surprise and delight me.
Simply put, WordPress has won my heart. But it’s not just the products or the platform, its the people. I know that those who build products I use and love truly care about me and my experience. They have my back. That is what makes the WordPress community stand out: it is a community of generosity. The WordPress community has been simply awesome to me , and I want to help others in the same warm manner as has been shown to me!
