Chris Ford is a Project Manager with a background in graphic and user experience design. She’s currently leveraging the skills learned in those roles to manage projects at Reaktiv Studios, a WordPress.com VIP partner. In her spare time she antagonizes her dog with guitar practice, grows stuff in her garden, and makes stuff with her hands.
We’re thrilled to have Chris onboard as a speaker at WordCamp Sacramento 2018 asked a few questions to help you get to know more about her. Check out our mini interview with Chris below:
What is the topic of your WordCamp talk?
The Biggest Design Problem I’ve Confronted Is Project Management
Why do you think this is important?
If you’ve ever struggled with a project losing money because it’s taking longer than you wanted it to, you’ll want to attend this talk where Chris Ford discusses how she’s used her background in design to help implement a project management process much like you’d develop an app, website, or product for a client.
What’s your WordPress origin story?
I was working for a scrapbooking magazine when a friend of mine needed a website. Since she was ana amazing pregnancy/kid photographer, and my sister happened to be pregnant with my nephew, I traded a website for a maternity/newborn photo package. That website was a huge flash header grafted onto the top of a Kubrick-themed blog, and the pictures of my newborn nephew are still hanging in my sister’s hallway.
That site led to another one, this time for a scrapbooking supply company called “”Pink Paislee”
How has WordPress impacted your world?
In every way possible. I work with great people every day, from my house, with my dog and my wife in the next room, and realize every day how lucky I am WordPress made that possible. Most of my friends are WordPress friends, or the spouses of WordPress friends. And WordPress has given me the opportunity to share my stories with the community at large, showing me that 9th grade speech team experiences aside, speaking in public is actually a fun, not-at-all-terrifying thing to do 🙂
