Heather Hogan has been making websites for a long time. She has taken on many roles in the communications sphere including: webmaster, designer, developer, artist, project manager, event coordinator, and marketing specialist. She has had the pleasure to work with organizations like the Sacramento Public Library, The Nature Conservancy, The World Economic Forum, Sacramento State University, and the City of Rocklin. Currently, she divides her time teaching web design at Sacramento City College, coordinating web and marketing for Sierra 2 Center, juggling freelance web projects, and making fine art.
We’re thrilled to have Heather onboard as a speaker at WordCamp Sacramento 2018 asked a few questions to help you get to know more about her. Check out our mini interview with Heather below:
What is the topic of your WordCamp talk?
How To Publish Blog Posts With WordPress (And Use Categories And Tags)
Why do you think this is important?
The sheer amount of information we have at our fingertips is staggering! The power to learn how to control electricity, free dive to the deep, or even fly can make one feel like a God… But we cant learn anything if we cant find the darn instructions.
The ability to find “the right” content rests in our search algorithms — those bots can only search the text that we humans enter. Not just the keywords in the body content, the the frequency of those keywords among the posts, pages, headlines, categories, and tags within our website.
What’s your WordPress origin story?
I’ve been teaching designers how to make websites at Sacramento City College since 2006… designers who don’t want to code, they want to design. Once I used WordPress I knew I had found a happy medium where designers could design and create a great website. Ive been using WordPress for web projects large and small ever since.
How has WordPress impacted your world?
WordPress has allowed me to help businesses and individuals communicate their vision easily and beautifully to the world online. WordPress has provided me with friends, connections, travel and fulfilling work.
