Meet The Speaker: Michelle Schulp

Michelle Schulp

Michelle Schulp is an independent graphic designer and frontend developer in Minneapolis. Prior to beginning her career, she studied Visual Communications, with minors in Psychology and Sociology. As her work progressed, she also branched into front-end development and user experience design to round our her skillset. This combination of disciplines led her to adopt a strategy-based approach to design, focused on solving tangible problems and achieving real goals based on how people think. She loves the open source community, and when she is not working on projects she speaks/volunteers/organizes at events and workshops around the country. Her passions are communication and empowerment, and she believes in the power of “Why?”

We’re thrilled to have Michelle onboard as a speaker at WordCamp Sacramento 2018 asked a few questions to help you get to know more about her. Check out our mini interview with Michelle below:

What is the topic of your WordCamp talk?

Building Blocks: Atomic Design In A Gutenberg World

Why do you think this is important?

Modular design and the principles around it has become increasingly important in modern web architecture, and it’s going to be even more so when Gutenburg is eventually merged into core. We need to start having these discussions now so that we understand the difference between making design decisions, architecting a page, and using/building the technologies that build the elements, and how all of these work together to enable clients to build flexible sites that still have strong design guidelines in place

What’s your WordPress origin story?
